Two Dave Morgan goals, both from penalty corners earned Blackpool their first point in 2017 with a 2-2 draw away to league leaders Liverpool Sefton.
The home side dominated the opening quarter of an hour with their pacey forwards proving a handful for the Blackpool defence. However after a few scares, Blackpool began to play themselves into the game and looked dangerous on the counter. Morgan combined with Simon Thomas to open the scoring after twenty minutes, however Sefton hit back with a well worked goal from a powerful reverse stick cross five minutes later. Blackpool thought they’d regained their advantage at their next penalty corner only for it to be ruled out as the ball was deemed to have never left the area.
The second half proved to be a replica of the first with Blackpool retaking the lead through Morgan with a deflected reverse stick effort at a penalty corner, only for the home side to peg Blackpool back fifteen minutes from the end. Rob Dingle and Steve Whitley both had chances for the visitors, but in the end a draw was a fair result in a competitive game. Sam Robinson’s performance in a variety of positions earned him Blackpool’s man of the match.
